School Superintendents of Alabama

Professional Development Conferences

Three annual conferences provide active SSA members with professional learning, legislative engagement, and leadership-team development.

SSA holds three professional development conferences each year for active members. Each conference is designed around the timely needs of Alabama’s superintendents and district leadership teams.

October

Fall Conference

The Fall Conference is usually held in the northern part of the state during the second week of October, Monday through Wednesday and including Columbus Day.

The conference may focus on technology and often continues the professional development topic introduced during the previous Summer Conference. Participants who attend both conferences and complete the required documentation may be eligible to earn one professional learning unit.

Montgomery

Legislative Conference

The Legislative Conference is held in Montgomery during the Alabama Legislative Session. It includes a legislative reception for superintendents and members of their legislative delegations.

Conference topics include the upcoming legislative session, education budget priorities, effective advocacy, timely education issues, and the development of strong legislative relationships.

The conference is planned by SSA staff and officers and is designed to connect the legislative priorities of SSA, Alabama’s superintendents, and state legislative leaders.

Summer

Summer Conference

The Summer Conference is held at or near the beach and provides professional learning designed for superintendents and their system leadership teams.

SSA strives to coordinate conference dates with the Alabama Association of School Boards so the two organizations’ conferences are held back-to-back, making it easier for superintendents to attend both.
